Dr. Hackett relocated to Massachusetts in August, 2007 with her husband, Frank, who is also an educator, and their three children: Parker, Cameron and Kelsey. She has been a public educator since 1992, and her background includes experience at the elementary, middle, high school, district and post-secondary levels.

Dr. Hackett's educational career began at Mattanawcook Junior High in Lincoln, Maine - the same school she had attended as a child. She then accepted a position as a high school English teacher at Old Town High School in the city of Old Town, Maine, where she was promoted to the position of Dean of Students. Dr. Hackett has also served as a 5-8 principal in Medway, Maine, a Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment in Bucksport and Brewer, Maine, a Deputy Superintendent for Teaching and Learning in Brookline, Massachusetts, and an Assistant Superintendent in Taunton Public Schools.

Prior to relocating to Massachusetts, she taught graduate-level courses at her alma mater, the University of Maine, including a series of Gifted and Talented courses for graduate students and an instructional leadership class for aspiring principals.

As an educator, Dr. Hackett's passions have included: reading and writing at the secondary level, the integration of instructional technologies, developing coherent curriculum, instruction and assessment systems, examining connections between professional development and student achievement, and strategic planning.
