E-Learning & Communications

Current and Proposed Status of Guidelines

The following illustrates the Current Status of Taunton's technology to the
DOE Benchmarks and Proposed Direction by the new Technology Plan.

A. Innovative Delivery of Courses  
The district encourages the development and use of innovative strategies for delivering specialized courses through the use of technology.

B. IP-based Learning      
The district deploys IP-based connections for access to web-based and/or interactive video learning on the local, state, regional, national, and international level.

  • District has started planning and implementing Voice over IP for classrooms (TMLP).

C. E-Learning Classroom Activities  
Classroom applications of e-learning include courses, cultural projects, virtual field trips, etc.

D. Up-to-date Web Site  
D. The district maintains an up-to-date web site that includes information for parents and community members.   The district has a web site that is managed by an adminsitrative assitant. THS is managed by high school students under a high school teacher's leadership. Each school has a designated person or parent to update school websites.
  • Investigate and propose a web portal for ease of use for district.
  • RFPs for SIMS upgrade include communication portals.

E. Archiving Policies      
The district complies with federal and state law, and local policies for archiving electronic communications produced by its staff and students. The district informs staff and students that any information distributed over the district or school network may be a public record. The district is backing up the website and minimal back up of email (snapshot, but not comprehensive.)

 

  • Investigate alternative ways of backing up email system.
  • Propose Exchange server solution for better back up purposes.
  • Collaborate with TMLP for off site back up storage space.
  • Update AUP and redistribute to inform staff staff and students of public record.
