Taunton to Participate in Professional Development Focused on Math Success for Multilingual Learners

TAUNTON - Superintendent John Cabral is pleased to announce members of the Taunton Public Schools staff will participate in professional development focused on English Language Learners' success in math.

The four-part professional development is organized by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and is being led by the national non-profit organization English Learners Success Forum

Each virtual session will focus on a different aspect of improving math instructional materials for multilingual learners and aims to provide opportunities to plan effective support and leadership for multilingual learners.

“We have a wonderfully diverse community of learners in Taunton,” said Superintendent Cabral. “Professional development opportunities like this are so important to making sure we continue to meet and exceed the needs of our multilingual learners.”

Taunton participants include Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Christopher Baratta, Director of the Multilanguage Learners Program Dalila Mendoza, Director of STEM Elizabeth Pawlowski, and curriculum coordinators and instructional coaches.

The first session, scheduled for January 29, is focused on culturally and linguistically responsive implementation of high-quality math materials for multilingual learners. Sessions are scheduled each month through April.
