TAUNTON - Superintendent John Cabral is pleased to share that 87 students at Taunton High School have been inducted into the National Honor Society.
The National Honor Society (NHS) recognizes students who excel academically, in service, leadership, and character.
“Honoring students who have excelled in both academics and in giving back to their community fills me with hope,” Superintendent Cabral said. “These students have fully embraced the meaning of the TORCHHE motto: Trust, Optimism, Respect, Collaboration, High Expectations, Hard Work and Equity. I’d also like to thank NHS advisors Julie Barbour and Sarah Gibson for their leadership and guidance.”
To be eligible for the NHS, students must be a junior or senior and demonstrate how they satisfy each of the society’s four pillars. For scholarship, students must have a minimum 3.5 GPA, for leadership students must show two examples of leadership, for service students must provide three examples of community service, and for character, students must provide a character statement from a non-parent.
Each student’s candidacy is evaluated by a five-member faculty committee.
Once inducted to the Taunton chapter, students must meet the same GPA requirements, complete 10 hours of community service, maintain their good character, and fill the minimum meeting attendance requirements.
According to the NHS, there are chapters in all 50 states, as well as international chapters, engaging with more than 1.4 million students.
