TAUNTON- Superintendent John J. Cabral and Visual Art Curriculum Supervisor Caitlin Antrim are pleased to announce three Taunton High School students have won a Regional Scholastic Art Award in the Portfolio category:
- Madelyn Rushton, ‘24, was recognized with an Honorable Mention for her portfolio of six Stylized Portraits.
- Noah Bulcao, ‘24, received a prestigious Silver Key Award for his portfolio entitled Yearning is not Living.
- Kim Ryan, ‘24, also earned a Silver Key Award for her portfolio of works on the theme of The Breakdown of Innocence.
The Scholastic Art Portfolio requires a series of six distinct works that communicate a single, cohesive idea or visual investigation. Works submitted to the Scholastic Art Awards are judged on originality, skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision.
“I’d like to congratulate these young talented artists for their vision and execution,” said Superintendent Cabral. “Art and its importance in our lives is too often overlooked so I’d also like to thank Visual Arts Curriculum Supervisor Caitlin Antrim and AP Art and Design teacher Bridget Bannon for encouraging and supporting our student artists.”
The students are now building a cohesive portfolio investigating a theme or topic that interests them in line with the AP Art and Design curriculum.
Later this month, 10 AP Art and Design students will exhibit their work at the first-ever Taunton High AP Artists’ Gala Exhibition at the Taunton Arts Association on Thursday, April 25, from 6-8 p.m.
Taunton High School offers 11 art classes including drawing and painting, photography, animation, sculpture and fine crafts.
