Athletic Eligibility
To participate in Taunton High School athletics, students must meet the eligibility requirements established by Taunton High School and the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA). The information below summarizes the requirements for participation.
Academic Eligibility
- Earn 25 credits during the previous academic year to be eligible for fall sports.
- Earn 15 credits each marking period to remain eligible.
- Outstanding obligations (fees, lost textbooks, etc.) may affect eligibility.
Attendance Requirements
- Be present in school on the day of participation.
- Arrive at school by 8:15 a.m.
- Do not leave school before 11:15 a.m.
- Follow all district attendance expectations.
Physical Requirements
- A current physical is required before tryouts.
- Physicals are valid for 13 months.
- Students become ineligible if their physical expires.
Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) Eligibility
In addition to Taunton High School's eligibility requirements, all student-athletes must also meet the eligibility standards established by the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA). These statewide rules apply to all member schools and govern participation in interscholastic athletics.
- Students who turn 19 years old before September 1 are not eligible to participate.
- Students are eligible for no more than eight consecutive semesters beyond Grade 8.
- Students who transfer between high schools may be subject to MIAA transfer eligibility rules.
- Students are expected to demonstrate good sportsmanship. Certain violations may result in suspension from athletic participation.
- Students must comply with the MIAA Alcohol and Drug Policy throughout the athletic year.
